01.
Iranian Tar & Setar

Tar and Setar are Persian/Iranian instruments used in Traditional music and recently in other tradition and styles. They are from the family of long neck lutes and provide a frequency range of two and a half octaves. Our system of teching for them is based on Tehran’s art school of music.

02.
Tonbak, Daf, Ney

Daf and Tonbak are two main percussion instruments in Iranian traditional music.

Ney is an end-blown flute that figures prominently in middle eastern music. In some of these musical traditions, it is the only wind instrument used. The Ney has been played continuously for 4,500–5,000 years, making it one of the oldest musical instruments still in use.

The Persian Ney consists of a hollow cylinder with finger-holes. Sometimes a brass, horn, or plastic mouthpiece is placed at the top to protect the wood from damage, and to provide a sharper and more durable edge to blow at. The Ney consists of a piece of hollow cane or giant reed with five or six finger holes and one thumb hole.

03.
Santor, Ghanon, Gheychak

The Santur (Persian: سنتور‎) is a hammered dulcimer of  Persian/Iranic origins. The term Santur originally meant “100 strings.

Qanun is a string instrument played either solo, or more often as part of an ensemble, in most parts of the Middle East, West Africa, Central Asia, and southeastern regions of Europe. The name derives from the Arabic word qanun, meaning “rule, law, norm, principle”, which is borrowed from the ancient Greek word and musical instrument κανών (rule), which in Latin was called canon.

All playing music has been a blessing to our family not just because they have brought music into all our lives, but because it’s taught my children that they are capable of so much more than they ever thought possible. This is a lesson that will stay them through their entire lives, no matter what they choose to do!
